What’s better than a good run? A good run through the stunning Elan Valley, of course! This year’s Race Around the Lakes had everything—challenging hills, breathtaking scenery, and a whole lot of determined runners pushing themselves to the limit. And, of course, Mogwai Media was right there to capture all the action!
Chasing the 30K Runners
Armed with his camera (and a decent pair of bare foot running shoes), Dave followed the 30K runners as they tackled the epic course. From lung-busting climbs to sweeping downhills, every step was a mix of effort and awe, with the backdrop of the Elan Valley’s rolling landscapes making for some seriously stunning shots. The runners powered through, fuelled by sheer determination, energy gels, and probably the thought of a well-earned pint at the finish line!
Snapping the 10K Crew
Meanwhile, Sam had her sights set on the 10K runners, catching them as they reached their turning point at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre. After a steady 5K climb from Rhayader, they made the turn and pushed back for the return leg. Some looked fresh, some looked less fresh... but, all of them looked like champions. The camaraderie was high, with runners giving each other nods, waves, and the occasional “why did I sign up for this?” look.
The Final Push
As the 30K runners hit the final stretch, Sam and Dave were nearby, ready to capture those last few miles of pure grit. The final 5K saw them crossing the bridge from Elan Village over the River Afon Elan, knowing the finish line was almost within reach. Tired legs, big smiles, and one last push—this was the moment they’d been working for.
From start to finish, Race Around the Lakes was a test of endurance, a feast for the eyes, and a photographer’s dream.
